Meet the Magnopians: Melanie Zarzur
Melanie Zarzur is a Product Manager at Magnopus. After receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California, Melanie pivoted toward spatial computing and immersive tech. She joined the Magnopus ranks in 2022, starting as a Product Management Intern, where she demonstrated a strong knack for user-focused design and quickly transitioned into a Product Coordinator role overseeing the delivery of complex MR projects. Melanie’s focus is now on the development of an AI-driven product that puts greater control into the hands of creators.
Tell us about your role at Magnopus!
I’m a product manager for the product suite at Magnopus. I’ve also served as a project manager for various studio projects. I wear many hats, and I love it – it keeps things interesting.
What three skills are essential for anyone in your role?
All projects at our company are fast-paced and collaborative. I believe the ability to keep learning, think critically, and maintain a positive attitude are key for this role.

How do you want to leave a mark on the world?
I don't necessarily have a strong desire to leave my mark on the world, but I do wish to create a safe and peaceful environment where I get to enjoy my life, family, and community.
How do you approach challenges and setbacks?
I think challenges and setbacks are valuable – they teach us how to move forward. I treat them as lessons and try to take away key learnings for future endeavors.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time?
There are so many things I would do with that extra time, and most of them are hobbies. I would continue studying French, focus on my training (I've been into running and cycling lately), and catch up on my reading; though honestly, I've been avoiding bookstores because I already have way too many books waiting in line.
How would your friends describe you?
My friends and family have always described me in two words: determined and funny. I'm not exactly sure how those two relate to one another, but it seems like a pretty nice combo.
Where is one place you want to travel to in the world, and why?
Iceland has always been at the top of my bucket list. I would love to experience the aurora borealis at its peak.

Tell us something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives.
I think everyone should feel truly connected – to their world, their family, friends, pets, and places. At a time when we are constantly connected online, it can sometimes feel like we're disconnecting from our physical environment. Hobbies have been my way of staying grounded, and I would recommend them to anyone.
Tell us something that would surprise us!
During college, I worked at a planetarium for three years as a presenter, guiding guests through the cosmos. I had a lot of fun, and because we practised in the dome, I learned to identify constellations in the night sky easily. So, whenever I go camping, I get to put that skill to use under the stars – it's a pretty fun one to have.
